Management Systems Certification

Management Systems Certification

SSAIB offers a range of management systems certification schemes.  These schemes can be complimentary to product certification or run independently of it, depending on individual organisational requirements.

ISO 9001

Quality management systems certification to ISO 9001 focuses upon the business framework, with an emphasis on management processes; the measurement of continual improvement, and customer satisfaction, rather than emphasising routines and procedures.
An effective quality management system can benefit a business in many ways, including:

Providing a structured and systematic approach to help achieve the company’s aims and objectives. It may be needed to prove your ability to provide product that meets customer, statutory or regulatory requirement.

  • Helping to streamline business processes and improve self- governance.
  • Improve service quality, through a process of continual improvement of the system or provide the assurance of conformity to customer, statutory or regulatory authorities.
  • Increase customer satisfaction.
  • Improve productivity, reduce waste.

EMS14001

This International standard specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable an organisation to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account the legal and other requirements to which the organisation subscribes as part of its environmental policy management.

It applies to aspects of environmental impact that the organisation identifies as, a) those which it can control and, b) those which it can influence. It does not state specific environmental performance criteria.

EMS 14001 is applicable to any organisation that wishes to:

  • Establish, implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system.
  • Assure itself of conformity with its stated environmental policy.
  • Demonstrate conformity with this International standard by:
    • making a self-determination and self-declaration;
    • seeking confirmation of its conformance by parties having an interest in the organisation (such as customers);
    • seeking confirmation of its self- declaration by parties external to the organisation;
    • seeking certification /registration of its environmental management system by an external organisation, such as SSAIB.

The requirements of EMS 14001 can be incorporated into any environmental management system. The extent of the application depends on factors such as the environmental policy of the organisation; the nature of its activities (products and services), in addition to the location at which it operates and the conditions under which it functions.

OHSAS 18001

Compliance with this standard demonstrates that as an organisation you have considered all aspects of health and safety management within the workplace. This includes the health and safety of employees and the introduction of robust procedures to ensure continual improvement and review.

OHSAS 18001 specifies the requirements for the health and safety management system and it enables the organisation to continue to improve its occupational health and safety performance. It does not state specific performance criteria, nor does it give detailed specifications for the design of the management system.

This standard would be applicable to any organisation that wishes to:

  • Establish an occupational health and safety management system to minimise or eliminate risk to personnel and other interested parties who could be exposed to hazards associated with its activities.
  • Implement, maintain and continually improve an occupational health and safety management system.
  • Assure itself of its conformity with its stated occupational health and safety policy.
    • Demonstrate conformity with the OHSAS standard by:
    • making a self-determination or self- declaration;
    • seeking confirmation of its conformance by parties having an interest in the organisation (such as customer);
    • seeking confirmation of its self- declaration by parties external to the organisation;
    • seeking certification /registration of its occupational health and safety management system by an external organisation, such as SSAIB.

All of the requirements in this OHSAS standard are intended to be incorporated into any occupational health and safety management system.

The extent of the application will depend in such factors as the organisations policy, the nature of activities undertaken and the risk and complexity of its operations.

This standard is intended to address occupational health and safety; it is not intended to address other health and safety areas such as employee wellbeing /wellness programmes, product safety or environmental impact.

Flexibility

SSAIB can support you with the introduction of these standards individually or in conjunction with any relevant security, guarding, fire or telecare product schemes.
