Abdullah: The Hero Security Officer Who Foiled the Leicester Square Knife Attack

11/03/2025

In a moment of extraordinary bravery, security officer Abdullah prevented a shocking knife attack in Leicester Square, earning him recognition and widespread admiration. On duty at the bustling tourist hotspot, Abdullah intervened when a man launched a brutal daylight assault on an 11-year-old Australian girl and her 34-year-old mother. The attacker, a 32-year-old man, had the terrified schoolgirl in a headlock and had stabbed her eight times when Abdullah, stationed near the TWG tea shop, swiftly disarmed him. The suspect, later identified as Loan Pintaru, has since been charged with attempted murder.

A Hero's Journey

Abdullah, 29, originally came to the UK from Abbottabad, northern Pakistan, to pursue a master’s degree in project management. However, after struggling to find a job in his field, he turned to the security profession, where he found purpose in protecting people.

Speaking about the attack, Abdullah emphasised his commitment to his adopted country: "This is our country. We came here as a choice, so we are protectors, not attackers."

His courageous act has been widely celebrated, with the Pakistani High Commission recognising his bravery. Even in his hometown, Abdullah has become a national hero. "They're saying: 'Well done Abdullah, hero of Leicester Square,'" he shared. "People are coming to my family home and celebrating as if it were Eid, saying: 'Your son has made our whole country proud.'"

The Aftermath of the Attack

The terrifying incident occurred on 12 August, just after 11:30 a.m. The young victim from New South Wales was rushed to hospital, where she underwent plastic surgery for wounds to her face, shoulder, wrist, and neck.

Abdullah’s bravery has received praise from political figures, including Conservative peer Aamer Sarfraz, who called him a "real-life hero" whose actions "single-handedly shut down the narrative of far-right protesters." Sarfraz also highlighted the often-overlooked contributions of security officers who work tirelessly to keep the public safe.

Abdullah’s New Role: Frontline Ambassador for IPSA

Recognising his exceptional courage, the International Professional Security Association (IPSA) appointed Abdullah its new Frontline Ambassador and Champion. In his new role, Abdullah aims to advocate for security professionals and emphasise the importance of their work in keeping communities safe.

Reflecting on his appointment, Abdullah stated:

"This recognition not only humbles me but reinforces my commitment to the security profession. Our role goes beyond reacting to threats—it is about prevention, awareness, and constant readiness to protect those around us."

IPSA’s CEO, Satia, expressed immense respect for Abdullah’s bravery and dedication, stating:

"It is with great honour and immense respect that we announce the appointment of Abdullah as the new Frontline Ambassador and Champion at International IPSA. This appointment recognises Abdullah’s exceptional bravery, commitment, and professionalism in the face of adversity.

Last summer, during the tragic events at Leicester Square in the UK, Abdullah demonstrated extraordinary courage and presence of mind by successfully foiling an attack, preventing further harm to countless individuals. His quick thinking and selfless actions exemplify the very best of our industry and highlight the importance of proactive security measures in safeguarding our communities.

At IPSA, our mission is to give our frontline security officers a voice and ensure their dedication, skill, and bravery are recognised and valued. Abdullah’s appointment is a key step in helping us achieve that mission. His leadership will raise awareness of the critical work done by those on the front lines of security.
