OSPAs Nominations Now Open For SSAIB Firms to Put Forward Exceptional Security Staff for Industry Recognition

The nominations are now open for SSAIB-registered firms to submit their selections for next year’s Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs), which rewards proven outstanding performance across the security sector.

Celebrating their third year in 2019, the UK OSPAs – which form part of a global awards scheme currently running in eight countries - will take place at the Royal Lancaster in London on Thursday February 28, 2019. However, the deadline for nominations to be made is midnight on Monday October 15, 2018.

Judging of the awards will be undertaken by an independent panel who have been nominated by many of the leading security associations – including SSAIB chief executive Alex Carmichael.

With awards presented across 16 categories, nominations are open to anyone working within the security sector. The main criteria for entry is that a company, team or individual has performed at an exceptional level and nominees are eligible to be put forward for more than one category.

The categories for this year’s UK OSPAs include:

Outstanding In-House Security Manager/Director
Outstanding Contract Security Manager/Director
Outstanding Security Team
Outstanding Contract Security Company (Guarding)
Outstanding Security Consultant
Outstanding Customer Service Initiative
Outstanding Security Training Initiative
Outstanding Security Installer/Integrator
Outstanding Event Security Team
Outstanding Security Partnership
Outstanding Security Equipment Manufacturer
Outstanding New Security Product
Outstanding Security Officer
Outstanding Young Security Professional
Outstanding Cyber Security Initiative
Lifetime Achievement Award

Nominations are free to submit, but the person nominating is required to answer two questions on the nominee and why they should win the award. The judging panel for each category will then use these answers as part of their decision making when choosing a winner.

SSAIB Name Joanne Ellis as New Sales Executive

SSAIB Name Joanne Ellis as New Sales Executive

Long-serving SSAIB employee Joanne Ellis has moved from manned guarding administrator to be the leading security and fire certification body’s new sales executive.

Joanne has been with SSAIB for over ten years - during two spells with the organisation - having started as an office apprentice straight out of school. After achieving both her Business Admin Level Two and Level Three qualifications during her first four years at SSAIB, Joanne then returned as manned guarding administrator some six years later.

Following a further six years working within manned services, Joanne decided to apply for the vacant sales executive job – as she revealed that it brings a new set of challenges compared to her previous roles, but she can’t wait to get started.

Joanne commented: “This new role will be a challenge, but it’ll be a good challenge for me and it is definitely one that I’m looking forward to.

“Working in the sales team will also allow me to get out of the office more and meet people, so it will be nice to go along to exhibitions and regional meetings and put faces to names that I’ve only spoken to over the phone or via email.”
